Magnolia Cookbook Review!

So my future mother in law also has a love for Joanna Gains (I mean who doesn't) and she sent me the Magnolia Cookbook.  It's been out for a little so I have tested out a few recipes but I by no means have gone through all the recipes.  Here's my initial review and maybe in a few weeks I will update this post if you'd like more thoughts! Just like this post so I know to add more!

First thoughts - WOW there's a lot of recipes.  WOW this isn't the healthiest cookbook.

I'm not sure what I was expecting with Joanna, I thought she would be more health conscious with Greek yogurt substitutes but I was wrong, there was whole milk everywhere in the recipe.  I'm sure ingredients are healthier and fresher when you have your own farm!

I would say if you're looking for a cookbook with almond flour or zoodles, this is not for you.

Another thing I noticed was a lot of the sizes where huge, proportions for a family of 6.  Makes sense but it's too much for Henry and I.  And a lot of the recipes I didn't feel confident enough to cut in half.

One thing I really do like about this cookbook is the breath of it.  There are a TON of recipes and with her background and Texas living there is something for everyone!

Overall, it's a nice treat.  And a really fun book to have.  I can see me breaking it out for when we have guests and have richer foods rather than my go-to cookbook weekly.  I like it and it would be a great cookbook for a cook in your family that's for sure. It's also fun because they mark some of the recipes that they sell at her restaurant.  So it feels like you have some of Waco, Texas in your home.

And yes, the chocolate chip cookie recipe she always posts about it, is amazing.

Simply Taylor Cookbook

I recently purchased @simplytaylorblog's cookbook, Real Food, Real Simple: 80 Delicious Paleo-Friendly, Gluten-Free Recipes in 5 Steps or Less and I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys!

Ps. I used Ebates to make these purchases and got money back.  You can too and get $10 immediately for signing up!

So H and I don't follow any certain diet, the only things we really restrict is cheese, I seriously use to just inhale cheese it was gross, but we have been trying to eat a lot healthier!

First Impressions: I loved this cookbook, there was a ton of variety, some things we currently make and a few out of my comfort zone.

This is exactly what I was looking for, something healthy, fun and not like every recipe included kale. I will have to say when I'm in a pinch, I use gluten products and the recipe comes out just as good in my mind.

A few of my favorite recipes are the Frittata, Mexican Fiesta Skillet, Hawaiian Beef Burgers with Pineapple and Avocado, Summer Zucchini Noodles with Cantaloupe, Turkey Sausage and Lemon Sauce, Colorful Pineapple Slaw, Everyday Granola, & Chunky Chocolate Cookies.

Despite the long names that can seem intimidating at times the recipes are very simple and easy to follow along!

Recommendation: Buy this! Especially if you do follow a diet like this.  My sister and brother in law are gluten free and dairy free.  It's so nice to have this recipe book so I can find something that we will all like! It's usually on sale through Amazon, and I love supporting another Ohio Boss Lady!

New Year New You List

Happy New Years to you!! I hope you had a great time, I unfortunately got food poisoning but I am doing much better! Did you check out the new store?!

So of course now is the time to make some new years goals, and resolutions, hopefully change some of out bad habits and replace them with healthy ones! I will be sharing my resolutions later on this week, but I wanted to make a list of things that I think will help you out this year! So you can hit the ground running (for some literally).

REMEMBER WHEN SHOPPING: Use Ebates for cash back and coupons! Honey is a great back up when Ebates doesn't work on the site.Happy Shopping!

1 - A water bottle. These swell water bottles are everywhere any they are so cute.  It is so important to drink a lot of water for your appetite, flushing toxins, skin, etc.

2. - A fitness journal. I think it is very valuable to hold yourself accountable and write down all the things you eat, and your exercising habits.  Its very helpful! Apps like MyFitnessPal tell you about how your food breaks down with fats, protein and carbs and what your goals should be! Here is another one I really like.

3. - Wireless headphones.  I find these super helpful to work out, I was constantly trying to put my headphone back in while running or pulling them out while lifting.  I also like wireless headphones for cleaning and during chores.  I listen to music, podcast or audiobooks.

4. - Mason Jars.  There are some many healthy recipes for mason jars, wether its salad, snacks or yummy water.  I think its a cute way to be healthy and that motivates me.

New Year New You List Roundup of things you need for the new year

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven

5. A Yoga Mat. I love my yoga mat for any time I work out even when its not yoga.  I stretch on it all the time and its just a soft space to do work outs.  So don't think you HAVE to do yoga to own a yoga mat.

6. Crystals. If crystals are your thing I found a really awesome bundle on Amazon.  I like the idea of energy and having something tangible to hold.

I also really liked this cookbook  as well!

7. Vitamins. Lastly but very importantly vitamins.  I know vitamins can just really help you over all in any problems you're having wether its something internal, skin or stress these guys can help.  I don't take my regularly enough but I hope to!

I hope this new year brings you happiness and peace! I look forward to continuing this journey with you!
