Magnolia Cookbook Review!

So my future mother in law also has a love for Joanna Gains (I mean who doesn't) and she sent me the Magnolia Cookbook.  It's been out for a little so I have tested out a few recipes but I by no means have gone through all the recipes.  Here's my initial review and maybe in a few weeks I will update this post if you'd like more thoughts! Just like this post so I know to add more!  

First thoughts - WOW there's a lot of recipes.  WOW this isn't the healthiest cookbook. 

I'm not sure what I was expecting with Joanna, I thought she would be more health conscious with Greek yogurt substitutes but I was wrong, there was whole milk everywhere in the recipe.  I'm sure ingredients are healthier and fresher when you have your own farm! 

I would say if you're looking for a cookbook with almond flour or zoodles, this is not for you.

Another thing I noticed was a lot of the sizes where huge, proportions for a family of 6.  Makes sense but it's too much for Henry and I.  And a lot of the recipes I didn't feel confident enough to cut in half. 

One thing I really do like about this cookbook is the breath of it.  There are a TON of recipes and with her background and Texas living there is something for everyone! 

Overall, it's a nice treat.  And a really fun book to have.  I can see me breaking it out for when we have guests and have richer foods rather than my go-to cookbook weekly.  I like it and it would be a great cookbook for a cook in your family that's for sure. It's also fun because they mark some of the recipes that they sell at her restaurant.  So it feels like you have some of Waco, Texas in your home. 

And yes, the chocolate chip cookie recipe she always posts about it, is amazing. 

Office Make Over

Henry and I are moving to our dream apartment in 5 short weeks and Im so excited! I have had my eye on this location for a while and I can't wait to make it into our home.  With that being said my office space needs a major overhaul. 

Getting all dark furniture from college wasn't one of my better ideas.  So I am getting a white desk! This will be nice for blogging and taking photos.  I hope that one day I can find some wood for the topping but for now its just going to be white!

PS these white cute chairs you see all over Instagram, NOT COMFORTABLE! I work from home some days and sitting on them for a long time made me really uncomfortable and I didn't want to sit in my workspace at all.  I recently got this chair to replace it and its a much better seat! Highly recommend! 

I want to add more dimension to space above my desk.  I use to have this wire grid and it was great in theory but it made that space really flat.  So adding shelves I think will make it much more interesting.

Of course, you have to have some candles and books for inspiration around.  Here are the ones I currently love: 

I thought this little clock was a cute add-on and same with some greenery! I also really like this lamp but I try to keep my space pretty clean so that I can think better and not feel cluttered.

Favorite Recipes

So if you guys didn't know I love to cook! Every week I am making new recipes.  Sometimes I share on Instagram what Im making that week. I have been trying to buy cookbooks recently but my go to is usually Pinterest and I wanted to share a few of the go-to recipes that I make. If you like this types of posts please let me know! I have plenty of recipes I can share from trial and error based on categories like chicken, dessert, side dishes. I also have a lot of recipes for when you have guest over and wanna impress them. You name it Ive got it!! 

Healthy Blueberry Muffins - I love that these muffins made with better for you ingredients and these muffins come out so moist but not gummy.  They are easy to make and eat on the go!

Energy Bites - These are my favorite energy bites to date, I add chia seeds to mine even though I don't love them but I don't notice them! These are super yummy and really filling I don't need much!

Rainbow Veggies - I love making this for when I have guest over, not only do they ooh and ahh when they see it but they also can pick whatever veggies they like without me worrying! This recipe couldn't be easier and the veggies really do cook well all together

Taco Turkey Bowls - This is much better than you're average taco bowl, turkey can really take on any flavor you give it but by itself can be bland.  Cooking it with some broth really makes it so much more flavorful.  And I like trying to make taco bowls with turkey.

Stuffed Sweet Potatoes - I love this for a "meatless Monday" meal.  And although it is pretty simple its very filling and better than expected! 

Chicken Verde - I love that this is a crockpot recipe and I can dump everything and go.  Henry would eat this for every meal if he could.  The one thing I will say is it's a little soupy, haven't figured out how to solve that yet! 

Roasted Veggies and Sauage - I found that we were eating a lot of chicken and I just wasn't really liking it lately.  I have been loving sausage as a different protein its so flavorful and this recipe is amazing.  I try to always have recipes with veggies in them and this one is SO good. 

Tortellini Soup - this soup is easy and great for a winter day to warm up with! I'm not really a tomato girl so I'm surprised I like this soup but it gets my seal of approval.

Spiralized Sweet Potato Enchilada - I bought a spiralizer and was looking for recipes to use it on.  Although mine never looks this beautiful, it sure does taste good and is another great meatless Monday meal! 

Pumpkin Roll- Henry asked for this dessert whenever he can.  Making a roll can be a little intimidating but this recipe gives a lot of instructions and isn't too bad! 

We dont have any dietary restrictions and I just love trying new recipes so I hope you got some good ideas from this post. 

Let me know if you'd like more content on what I've been cooking.  I can't wait to move into our big kitchen and get items from my registry.  Then I will really be able to cook!

Summer Reading List

I have had a lot of fun over this past year sharing some great books I've been reading.  But my favorite part is hearing from you what you're reading.  I love books and I love sharing that love with all of your guys.  After finishing up all my books for my Sunday Reading post, I went back to target, took photos of all the books that seemed interesting and then rented them through my library, because I am cheap. And I will tell you, I do slightly judge books by their covers, sorry!

The Lonely Hearts Hotel - I love old time books to switch things up every once in a while, so this book sounded perfect.  Set in 1914, a love story, mystery, and music.  What could be better?

The Party - My friend recommended this book and it sounded like a book filled with gossip and suspend.  I am hoping that this one is a page-turner!

Surprise Me - I really liked the sound of this book because it seemed just like a different concept with a simple plot.  A marriage that is looking for some spice and turns into secrets. 

The Hazel Wood - I liked supernatural books and getting lost in a world I couldn't have imagined before picking up this book.  It seems more of a teen book but Im okay with that means a quick read for me and that sometimes just what I need! 

Crazy Rich Asians - This book is becoming a movie soon! It reminds me of another series like A-list (anyone read that?) or gossip girl.  Great summer read I can't wait to dive in!

The Food Therapist - I'm working hard to get a healthier lifestyle, and I saw this book floating around Instagram so I want to give it a shot.  I am most definitely an emotional eater, learning to get that under control would really help further my fitness progress!

Also, for any of my Cincinnati friends out there I just read Eligible and it's based in Cincinnati and its so fun to read about all our favorite local places.  I also really enjoyed the story too!
