Lessons from 2018 so far

I meant to write this post a long time ago but like most of this year it has just gotten away from me. Last year I feel like I worked a lot on myself and my anxiety. This year I focused a lot of attention outward and what I was putting out into the world. I could tell that my anxious and fearful self didn’t help me to get where I wanted to go especially with friendships. And this year with wedding planning it shows you a lot. I had a ton of friends I never expected step up to the plate, I learned that my friends show that they care in different ways than I do and really learned the tough lesson that I wasn’t a priority for some people. I am empathetic to a fault and I really try to communicate with friends, and when you don’t receive that back it can be hurtful.

So I stopped putting effort into relationships that no longer served me.

Now, I feel like when people say that it makes it seem like this incredible shift happens immediately and life is unicorns and rainbows. And friends Im here to tell you the truth. At first, its quiet. Like eerily quiet. When you remove all the noise and commotion of people in your life that have a negative affect, it leaves a really empty space.

And I have to be honest, it freaked me out at first. I wasn’t sure what to do I felt like I had all this time on my hands, less people were talking to me and I felt sad. I was morning the lost of friends and had nothing to immediately replace it with. So I took a step back and thought about what I would like to fill my new found free time with. I spent it doing things I enjoyed and thats when everything really started to turn around. I fostered and help grew things in my life that brought me happiness. Sometimes I would just read a book and when it was over I’d be sad because no one texted me. But I realized that few hours of reading the book brought me more happiness, and less frustration than those friends did.

So yes this shift brought good change but it took time and a little more work on my side. But I find now that when toxic friends do dumb things it doesn’t bother me or get me worked but because I don’t care, and two I have better friends now that I don’t need them. I put more time and energy into things and people that made me happy and of course Im overall much happier.

So If you’re looking for a sign, this is it. Don’t waste your precious time and energy on things and people that don’t make you feel good. Do things that are good for you and make you feel good about yourself. I spent so much time trying to get mean people to like me and it was like for what? Why not spend more time with someone you just met and it was easy.

I hope this encourages you too that if you want a change, it my be hard at first, and even weird but it will pay dividend. Just know you’re doing what is best for you and thats what matters! The happier the more you will attract your tribe!

5 Minute Summer Makeup

Of course now that we are half way through summer I have nailed down my 5 minute bronze summer makeup look and I want to share with you all my favorite products! Tell me below what products you love for en effortless summer look, I want to try out some new products!

Of course I start off with a moisturized base, I love this gel moisturizer to keep me hydrated in the summer but not make my oily.  Its super light weight and absorbs really quickly.  Then I have been liking the BB cream.  Something super light (when my skin is cooperating) but gives me enough coverage to get an even base.

For bronzer, I have been loving too face chocolate bronzer.  I like that it smells like chocolate and gives me a really nice warmth to the face without being to orange-y.  I know that there are other chocolates in the line for different skin tones too!

This Ulta blush I really like for the summer time because it has a lot of shimmer in it.  It just gives you this glow without being overwhelming and its a pretty peachy pink.  Perfect for the summer.

I usually don't do too much with my eyes, I like just adding a little bit of definition so I will add a taupe color to my crease or sometimes even just my bronzer! If Im feeling fancy I like adding a shimmery cooper or gold.  I think Glisten by Anastasia is just gorgeous, its pigmented but still gives off this "Im not trying hard" vibe.  If you know what I mean.

Lastly, I finish off with Tarte Mascara, I like that it gives me a lot of fluff to my eyelashes, but Im still looking for a good mascara that gives me a lot of volume and makes my lashes look fluffy.  If you have a recommendation let me know in the comments!

Lastly, I like to finish off with a gloss! It just helps to hydrate my lips, I feel like they get so dry in the summer with the hot air.  And I just like something that adds a little pink to my lips but isn't crazy pigmented.  I like this ulta formula, now it doesn't stay on like all day but Ill take it for a five minute routine!

Sometimes I do the All-Nighter setting spray.  I do feel like it helps to keep everything in place when Im in a hurry.  I also found this Coola setting spray that has sunscreen in it.  Now I haven't tried it so Im not going to recommend it but I thought it was a really cool concept because skin care is important especially if you're going to be out in the sun all day but the review seem hit or miss.  So let me know if you've tried it!

I had a sample of just their regular sunscreen and I liked that!

Tell me what are you tricks to get out the door but still have a glow!

7 Ways I'm Happier Everyday

This past couple of years have been one of growing and learning for me.  I realized two years ago how anxious, nervous and sad I was all the time.   And I wanted to change it.  I feel like the past couple of years have been laying down some good foundation but this past couple of months I've really seen and felt a difference in my every day. I wanted to share some of the things I have done with you, hopefully, some will resonate!

1 - Declutter - If you didn't read my post here about decluttering my every day, be sure to check it out.  Having a lot fewer things around me all the time has helped me to have a much clearer mind and feel a lot less anxious.

2 - Not watching live TV - Don't get me wrong I still love Bravo but I found myself trying to work my whole schedule around a TV show because I had deemed it as "me time".  When in reality I would hurry up trying to do things so I could relax but I was just thinking of all the things I didn't do, checking my phone all throughout commercial breaks and not really enjoying the time.  I now watch the show when I have time (fewer commercials) and I focus on it and enjoy it more.  Or I watch it while I'm working out and it feels like a treat!

3 - Giving my phone up every night - I also wrote a post about giving my phone up for 2 hours every night and what its done for me.  I feel so much more productive and relaxed at that time.

4 - Doing things I enjoy -  Like reading books, or skimming Pinterest for fun.  I'm trying to find things where I can lose myself a little more and fewer to-dos.  Baking is one thing that really lets my mind wander. You can see the 5 books I love on a Sunday afternoon here

5 - Cheat Meals - Henry and I realized we were spending money on going out as treats and not paying attention to how many times we were doing it.  In an effort to really clean up our diet we have decided to every Friday have a "cheat meal" that we usually cook at home.  It a fun thing to look forward to all week and do together.  It saves money and makes the food more enjoyable! You can't be strict on your diet 100% of the time you'll go crazy.  We really enjoy the bonding time together as well after long weeks!

6 - Morning workouts - This was so hard in the beginning, I won't sugar coat it.  But I feel such a sense of accomplishment just starting my day.  And when I come home from work I don't feel guilty because I've already done it! Not to mention it feel good for my body and I'm loving getting stronger.

7 - Meditation - This really helps me to try to stop my thoughts and just take a second for myself. I have found too that I dont react as poorly to things when I am meditating regularlly.

I hope at least one thing on this list helps you to feel better every day! I'd love to hear any tips that you have.
